Could Your Oral Health Improve with Fluoride Treatments?
Posted on 7/13/2019 by Kelly Hong
Fluoride is an important mineral that people need in order to have strong and healthy teeth and gums. Our hygienists provide fluoride treatments to those that want to have stronger, well protected teeth.
It is recommended for children to have the treatment done once they have their teeth cleaned. In addition to this, those that have well water, which does not have the mineral in it, should consider fluoride supplements in order to help build healthier, stronger teeth overall.
Fluoride is also a common ingredient that is found in toothpaste and mouthwash. It is also found in traditional tap water as most, if not all, municipalities add fluoride into the water supply to help make sure residents are getting this vital mineral. Other supplements and vitamins can help to build stronger teeth and gums, but fluoride is always recommended by our office to our patients.
Benefits of Having Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is beneficial to us all because it can help to rebuild weakened enamel on the teeth. It can also slow down the loss of minerals inside the tooth enamel. If you have tooth decay in the early stages, you can slow or stop the progression with proper care, including cleanings and fluoride treatments. It also helps to prevent harmful bacteria growth in the mouth that could potentially lead to more serious forms of tooth decay.
Fluoride has been shown to provide numerous other benefits of using it regularly, especially drinking it in water. Even smaller trace amounts can help boost the strength and integrity of your teeth. When it comes to fluoride, every little bit helps.
